They are finally officially home
Emotional reunion: Released Thai Hostages Return Home After Nearly 500 Days in Captivity
Five Thai hostages, who had been held captive by Hamas for nearly 500 days, returned home to Bangkok on Sunday morning, marking an emotional reunion with their families.

The hostages – Thenna Pongsak, Sathian Suwannakham, Sriaoun Watchara, Seathao Bannawat, and Rumnao Surasak – were released from Hamas captivity on January 30, 2025, and were initially taken to Assaf Harofeh Hospital in Israel for medical care.
On Saturday, the five were released from the hospital, with medical officials reporting significant improvements in their condition. Dr. Osnat Levtzion-Korach, the General Director at Assaf Harofeh, spoke of the difficult but rewarding experience of helping the Thai hostages. "Unlike the Israeli returnees, the returning Thai do not have families who awaited them in Israel," she explained. "We at Shamir Medical Center received them with open arms and a warm embrace, both as family and as a professional medical team."
While the Thai hostages did not have loved ones awaiting them in Israel, their return is seen as a symbol of hope and compassion. Israel's humanitarian efforts have been evident in their treatment of these hostages, as the government has extended support for their rehabilitation and granted them Israeli residency status. Israel's Interior Minister, Moshe Arbel, confirmed that the Thai hostages would receive ongoing medical assistance as part of their recovery process.
The five hostages are now on their way to Thailand, where they will continue to receive medical treatment. The Israeli government has committed to helping fund their rehabilitation, much as it has done for other released hostages from the conflict. The reunion with their families in Bangkok is a moment of relief and joy, marking the end of their traumatic ordeal.
This moment of triumph serves as a reminder of the broader human connections that transcend borders and the power of international solidarity in times of crisis.
