President Donald Trump has issued a high-stakes ultimatum to the Iranian leadership, setting a deadline of April 6, 2026, to reach an agreement to end the current conflict. Failure to meet this deadline will result in a direct U.S. military offensive against Iran’s energy sector.
The "Oil Takeover" Strategy
In a recent interview to the Financial Times, the President detailed a strategy to stabilize global markets by seizing control of Iranian natural resources.
Kharg Island: Trump explicitly stated that the occupation of Kharg Island, the terminal responsible for the vast majority of Iranian oil exports, is "on the table".
The Venezuela Precedent: He compared the potential move to the current U.S. administration of Venezuela’s oil industry following the capture of Nicolas Maduro in January.
The threat comes as Brent crude oil prices have surged over 50% in a single month, crossing $116 per barrel in Asian markets.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon is rapidly increasing its footprint in the Middle East to back the President’s rhetoric with physical force.
Orders have been issued for the deployment of 10,000 troops specifically trained for seizing and holding territory.
Approximately 3,500 personnel have already arrived, including 2,200 Marines and units from the 82nd Airborne Division.
The buildup follows an attack on a Saudi airbase that injured 12 U.S. soldiers and damaged a $270 million E-3 Sentry surveillance aircraft.
Trump claimed that the war has already forced a functional "regime change" due to the deaths of high-ranking officials.
The status of the Supreme Leader’s son remains unknown; he is believed to be either dead or severely wounded.
Trump described the current Iranian negotiators as "very professional," though he maintains the April 6 ultimatum.
Despite the military tension, indirect negotiations are reportedly progressing through Pakistani mediators.
The President noted that talks are "moving well" and an agreement could be reached "relatively quickly".
