Report: Iran Secured U.S. Assurance That Lebanon Is Included in Emerging Deal

Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Akhbar claims the understandings with Washington go beyond the Gulf and include ending the state of war in Lebanon, a rapid Israeli withdrawal, and the release of Lebanese prisoners

The Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, which is affiliated with Hezbollah, reported this morning that Iran has received a final American answer confirming that Lebanon is included in the emerging agreement between Washington and Tehran.

According to the report, President Donald Trump spoke three times with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding Lebanon, as part of broader efforts to finalize understandings that would end the state of war not only in the Gulf, but across the region.

Al-Akhbar claims that the understandings do not refer merely to a temporary ceasefire. Rather, the report says they include a complete halt to military operations, a timetable for a rapid Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon, an end to demolition and land-clearing operations, and the release of Lebanese prisoners.

If accurate, the report would represent a major development for Israel. Until now, Jerusalem has sought to preserve military freedom of action against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, even under ceasefire arrangements or regional understandings. Including Lebanon in an American-Iranian framework could narrow Israel’s room for maneuver and turn the Lebanese front into part of a wider diplomatic structure between the United States and Iran.

According to Al-Akhbar, the breakthrough was reached yesterday afternoon in Doha, through contacts led by Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The report says the talks included a senior Iranian official who arrived in Doha and a senior envoy representing Trump.

The newspaper further claims that the agreement calls for the start of measures to end the state of war in the Gulf and across the region, including Lebanon. According to the report, Washington agreed to language referring to an end to the state of war, not merely a ceasefire.

Another part of the report concerns Iran’s frozen funds. Al-Akhbar claims that Qatar offered a formula acceptable to both sides: one that would allow Iran to achieve its goal of accessing its money, while avoiding political embarrassment for Trump.

There has so far been no full official confirmation from Washington, Jerusalem or Tehran regarding the details of the report. Still, the publication itself is significant, as it may reflect an attempt by the Iranian axis to frame the emerging agreement as a broader strategic achievement — not only against the United States, but also against Israel on the Lebanese front.

For Israel, the central question is whether Washington now views Lebanon as part of the broader deal with Iran. If so, any Israeli operation against Hezbollah could become more than a local security issue. It could become a diplomatic crisis with the United States over the stability of the agreement with Tehran.
