Joseph Neumeier, 28, a German-American citizen, was arrested after spitting at a security guard at the embassy and leaving a bag at the scene containing flammable liquid. He was arrested at JFK Airport and could face up to 20 years in prison in the U.S. on suspicion of attempting a terror attack.

Nazi symbols, incitement, and a disturbing post targeting Yuval Raphael have already appeared before his entry to Israel.

According to a federal criminal complaint filed in Brooklyn, Neumeier arrived outside the embassy compound last Monday carrying a backpack containing three Molotov cocktails. He spat at a security guard, tried to flee the scene, and left the bag behind.

Upon landing in the U.S., he was transferred to the custody of the FBI and brought on Sunday for an initial hearing at the federal courthouse in New York, where a judge ordered his detention.

A bomb squad inspection confirmed that the bottles contained a flammable liquid. Neumeier had been arrested earlier that evening at the hotel where he was staying in Tel Aviv and was taken for questioning.

Just hours prior, he posted on a Facebook account attributed to him: “Join me as I burn the embassy in Tel Aviv. Death to America, death to Americans, and f* the West.”*

It is unclear how Neumeier was able to enter Israel, despite a Facebook profile containing a long list of extremist content, including incitement, hate speech against Israel, and Nazi symbols. According to authorities, additional posts included direct threats to the life of U.S. President Donald Trump, Nazi imagery, and disturbing content targeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump responded to Neumeier’s arrest, saying: “There are a lot of people like that around us - a lot of mentally ill people.”

Neumeier also presented himself as the CEO and founder of an AI-based data company, which likewise posted threatening content on official pages. One post read that the company is “proud to provide power reimbursement for 100 years to all former Palestinians,” allegedly in cooperation with the IDF, Israeli Air Force, Dubai’s water authority, and the Indian space agency.

After Yuval Raphael’s achievement in the Eurovision Song Contest, Neumeier shared a clip of the performance and wrote: “Long live the Fourth Reich. Death to America,” tagging the official account of the Tel Aviv Municipality - all while traveling around Israel and documenting his journey.
