BREAKING: Vehicle Rams White House Barricades, D.C. Perimeter on Full Lockdown
The incident unfolded at the intersection of 17th Street NW and E Street NW, just south of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building
Chaos erupted in the heart of the nation's capital early Wednesday around midnight when a vehicle plowed directly into security barricades at the White House complex, triggering an immediate lockdown of the surrounding area and mobilizing a rapid emergency response from Secret Service and local authorities.
The incident unfolded at the intersection of 17th Street NW and E Street NW, just south of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, a key nerve center for presidential operations. Eyewitnesses and initial reports describe the vehicle accelerating toward the reinforced barriers, slamming into them with enough force to shatter parts of the structure but failing to breach the inner perimeter.
The White House grounds and adjacent streets were swiftly sealed off, with uniformed Secret Service agents and D.C. Metropolitan Police flooding the scene.
Reports indicate that a person drove his vehicle into the security gate outside the White House. The secret service said the person was immediately arrested after the crash and there was no longer a threat. President Trump was in the White House at the time.
Hazmat teams, bomb squads, and fire units were spotted converging on the site. No injuries to personnel have been reported so far, and authorities confirm the driver was detained without incident, though details on the individual's identity, motive, or vehicle type remain under wraps.
