Haaland's New Haircut Goes Viral

Manchester City striker sheds signature long blonde hair for close-cropped style, drawing 1.5 million likes in under an hour

Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland, the Norwegian striker who leads Manchester City's attack, surprised his Instagram followers on Sunday with a dramatic makeover, trading his signature long blonde hair for a closely cropped cut.

The reigning Premier League Golden Boot winner shared a series of images documenting the transformation process. His new look features short sides and back, a stark departure from the flowing locks that had become one of his most recognizable features. "Short hair don't care," Haaland wrote alongside the photos.

He later posted a video showing before-and-after shots of the change. Manchester City's official account responded with "Nice" - a word that has become associated with the striker across social media platforms.

The response from Haaland's followers was immediate and overwhelming. Within less than an hour of posting the video, he had accumulated nearly 1.5 million likes and tens of thousands of comments on Instagram.

The transformation was particularly striking because Haaland had become identified with his long hair almost as much as with his prolific goal-scoring ability. Fans accustomed to seeing him take the pitch with his flowing blonde mane will now need to adjust to his new, shorter appearance.

The timing of the reveal was no coincidence: Haaland unveiled his new haircut just hours before Manchester City's opening match of the 2026/27 Premier League season against Bournemouth. The striker and his team will be looking to start the campaign on a strong note, particularly after Arsenal (one of their main title rivals) defeated Coventry City 3-0 on Friday.

Haaland enters the season opener with an impressive track record in August. The striker has scored 22 Premier League goals in just 14 matches played during that month, and he'll be hoping to continue his pattern of strong season starts when facing Bournemouth.

Just before returning to the pitch, Haaland has already managed to capture attention. This time, however, it wasn't through a goal but through a surprising farewell to one of his most distinctive trademarks.
