A routine fishing expedition turned into a frightening ordeal for Filipino fisherman Jesser Servantes when an octopus he had just caught suddenly attached itself to his face. The horrifying encounter, captured on video, has since gone viral online.

The incident occurred near Palawan Island in the Philippines. Servantes was fishing from a small wooden boat when he successfully caught the octopus. Within moments, however, the creature began writhing and used its tentacles, equipped with hundreds of powerful suction cups, to grip his face.

Footage shows the octopus spreading its arms across the fisherman's head, at one point covering the area around his mouth. Servantes initially attempted to pry the tentacles away with his hands, pulling at them one by one, but the creature maintained its grip. The struggle quickly escalated into a physical battle as the fisherman worked to remove each arm.

Realizing the octopus's hold was too strong to break manually, Servantes grabbed a cut bamboo pole and began striking the creature in an effort to force it to release him. After several tense moments, the tactic succeeded. The octopus finally let go, and Servantes threw it back into the water, visibly shaken as he recovered from the encounter.

"The octopus I caught was very difficult to control. It almost tore my face off," Servantes recounted after the incident.

The strength of the octopus's grip stems from its unique anatomy. Its tentacles are lined with powerful suction cups capable of creating significant adhesion to skin and various surfaces. Combined with the creature's flexible body and ability to maneuver each arm independently, an octopus becomes an extremely difficult opponent once it has attached itself.

Octopuses are also considered highly intelligent animals, and their reactions when captured can be unpredictable. In this case, what began as a routine fishing attempt transformed within seconds into a survival struggle aboard a small wooden boat.

Ultimately, the fisherman managed to free himself, and the octopus returned to the sea.
