An elementary school principal in Pennsylvania has become an internet sensation after security camera footage revealed his daily routine of personally greeting and connecting with hundreds of students.
Zach Bauermaster, who leads a school in Lancaster County, appears in hallway surveillance videos moving among students throughout the day—shaking hands, offering fist bumps, exchanging brief conversations, and repeatedly pausing to give each child individual attention.
"My goal as a principal is to create a school where kids want to be, where staff want to be, and where families trust and take pride in sending their children," Bauermaster explained. He described his practice of maintaining a visible presence throughout the entire school day: welcoming students at the entrance each morning, visiting classrooms, meeting them in hallways and the cafeteria, and finally seeing them off as they head home.
