A French court has indicted a domestic caregiver on charges of attempted poisoning after she allegedly tried to harm a Jewish family for whom she worked, according to details released in France and reported by Kan. The woman, an Algerian national employed as a full-time nanny, is accused of introducing toxic substances into food and drink consumed by the couple and their three children.

The indictment states that the suspect repeatedly mixed chemical agents into items in the family’s kitchen, including juice and wine bottles. The parents reportedly noticed unusual tastes and odors in several products and eventually contacted authorities. Subsequent testing revealed traces of harmful substances consistent with cleaning chemicals.

Investigators determined that the alleged motive was antisemitism. According to the case file, the nanny told police during questioning that she blamed Jews for the situation in Gaza. Prosecutors say she admitted she had considered harming the family for that reason, and that she selected household liquids that she believed would cause illness if consumed.

The nanny had lived with the family during the workweek and was responsible for caring for the children, ages two, four, and six. Prosecutors say her access to the home allowed her to place the substances without detection. Investigators emphasized that no long-term medical harm was recorded, largely because the family avoided drinking the contaminated liquids once they noticed the irregularities.

The court in Nanterre has placed the suspect under judicial supervision while the case proceeds. She is charged with attempted poisoning, aggravated by the allegation that the act was motivated by antisemitism. French Jewish organizations have expressed alarm, noting that the case comes during a period of sharply rising antisemitic incidents across the country.

Authorities have not released the family’s identity, and no further details about the forensic findings have been disclosed. The trial is expected to continue in the coming months as prosecutors present evidence on the substances used, the frequency of the alleged attempts, and the suspect’s statements during interrogation.
