The New York Police Department (NYPD) is investigating an antisemitic assault on a group of visibly Orthodox Jewish men aboard a subway train late last night (Monday, December 15, 2025). The victims, young Chabad-Lubavitch emissaries were returning to Crown Heights, Brooklyn, from a Hanukkah event in Manhattan when they were targeted.

Video footage circulating widely on social media captures the chaotic incident on the 3 train. The attackers, a father and son duo, allegedly began harassing the group at Franklin Avenue station after noticing their Jewish appearance. They boarded the same car, followed the victims across stops, and escalated to verbal abuse, including antisemitic slurs and explicit threats to kill them. One assailant is heard shouting threats while shoving and punching the victims, who largely refrained from retaliating. The physical assault involved punches, kicks, and shoves amid a crowded car, with bystanders minimally intervening.

The victims exited the train one stop early for safety, near their destination of Kingston Avenue (close to Chabad's world headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway). They sustained minor injuries, such as bruises, and no hospitalizations were required.

A hate crime complaint has been filed with the NYPD's Hate Crimes Task Force, though no arrests have been announced as of Tuesday morning, and the suspects remain unidentified publicly.

Community leaders and activists have condemned the attack as part of a disturbing pattern of antisemitic violence in NYC, particularly against Orthodox Jews in Brooklyn.

The assault occurred amid heightened security for Hanukkah celebrations in New York following the deadly shooting at a Chabad-organized event in Sydney. Jewish organizations have urged increased vigilance, and this subway incident shows ongoing concern about safety on public transit for visibly identifiable Jews.If you have information, contact NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. The investigation is ongoing.
