Attack caught on camera

Suspect held in Manhattan syringe attack

Woman accused of stabbing yeshiva student with sharp object near Diamond District taken into custody over Shabbos after coordinated effort by shomrim groups and NYPD Hate Crimes Unit

Suspect Arrested in Antisemitic Syringe Attack on Chabad Bochur in Manhattan

The woman suspected in a series of antisemitic attacks in Manhattan, including the stabbing of a Chabad yeshiva bochur near the Diamond District last week, was arrested over Shabbos by the NYPD.

The arrest followed coordinated fieldwork by shomrim organizations in Manhattan, Crown Heights and Queens working with the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force.

The attack took place Wednesday evening around 6:00 PM at West 47th Street and Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, a busy commercial area crowded with workers, shoppers and visitors. The victim, a 26-year-old Chabad bochur who identified himself only as Yosef, was walking when an unknown woman approached from behind and stabbed him with a sharp, unidentified object.

The bochur told investigators he believed the object was a needle or syringe. He was treated at a hospital and has since been released. He later returned to the scene and recounted the attack on camera, requesting anonymity.

The Manhattan attack was one of several incidents reported in the area, raising alarm across New York's Jewish community and prompting heightened vigilance by law enforcement and neighborhood patrols. As JFeed reported, the NYPD opened an investigation and is treating the case as an antisemitic hate crime.

The weekend arrest was made possible through a joint effort by shomrim leadership, who consolidated information from community emergency hotlines and passed it to NYPD investigators. As of now, authorities and the Manhattan shomrim have not released full identifying details of the suspect, the exact charges to be filed, or the circumstances of the arrest.

The quick closure of the case brings some relief amid a surge in antisemitic incidents across New York in recent months. Last week, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was confronted at a memorial rally for October 7th, where protesters waved Hezbollah flags and pictures of Sinwar.

Two weeks ago, a suspect was arrested for planning a terror attack on a Chabad preschool in Los Angeles. Explosives and a prepared Molotov cocktail were found in his home, and the suspect had posted explicit threats against Jewish institutions on social media. The wave of incidents has left visibly Jewish residents uneasy about their safety in the city's public and commercial spaces.
