Jolie based her remarks on UN satellite analysis data, according to which 82% of structures in the Strip have sustained damage. Writing some four months after the update in question (from June 2026), the actress stated that sixty-seven percent of the damaged buildings are classified as completely destroyed.
Jolie parroted so-called humanitarian warnings ahead of the cold season, writing: "As winter approaches, approximately 1.98 million people, about 94% of Gaza's population, are in need of shelter assistance and basic supplies. Meanwhile, the entry of aid and shelter materials continues to face restrictions and delays."
According to her, despite the clarity of the satellite images, technology cannot convey the human reality on the ground: "Google Earth shows the physical destruction with exceptional clarity, but it cannot show what it means to live inside this, what happened to the families who were killed, and what life looks like for those who survived."
Concluding her remarks, Jolie emphasised the immediate need for practical steps on the ground, calling for the provision of humanitarian aid, medical equipment for hospitals, and shelter for the civilian population before winter arrives. "The destruction is visible and the needs are known," the actress summarised. "What matters now is whether they will be met."
