A shocking case that has devastated the local community reached a critical legal milestone today (Thursday), as the Southern District Prosecutor's Office filed a prosecutor's statement against a Dimona resident in his 30s, suspected of murdering his seven-week-old son.

The filing follows an intensive and sensitive investigation by the Dimona police station (Rotem Region), which successfully established a solid evidentiary foundation against the suspect.

The case began on March 25, when a report was received from Soroka Medical Center in Beer Sheva. A baby only a few weeks old had been brought to the hospital suffering from severe physical trauma and bruises, which immediately alerted medical staff.

In response to the report, Dimona investigators launched an immediate inquiry. Both parents were initially detained for questioning regarding their involvement in the infant's critical injuries.

Two days later, on March 27, the infant was pronounced dead at the hospital, officially turning the case into a murder investigation. A special task force was established under the direction of the Rotem Region Commander, Chief Superintendent Shashi Shlomo.

The investigative team conducted a systematic inquiry, which included:

The suspect's detention has been extended multiple times by the court as the investigation progressed. Following the completion of the comprehensive probe, investigators concluded there was sufficient evidence to move forward.

The prosecutor's statement filed today serves as a formal bridge to the indictment. The Prosecution has declared its intent to charge the father with the murder of his son and will request that he be held in custody until the end of the legal proceedings.

"The Israel Police will continue to act with determination to bring those who harm the helpless to justice, while maintaining public safety and protecting the well-being of the vulnerable," a police spokesperson stated.
