A violent incident unfolded inside a school in Iksal, northern Israel, when a 19-year-old broke into the building and stabbed a 16-year-old student in the neck. The attack followed a violent brawl that erupted among students in the schoolyard and hallways, during which tear gas was deployed.
Following the confrontation that developed on the premises, two suspects arrived at the school riding a scooter, entered the chaotic scene, and one of them pulled out a sharp object and stabbed the minor in the neck. The victim was rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
Dramatic security camera footage from the school shows the sequence of events in real time. The video shows the suspects breaking into the schoolyard on foot, running quickly through the open gate. The footage then shows a large commotion in the hallways and covered areas, with those present trying to distance themselves from the area following the use of tear gas that caused blurring and panic. Moments later, the suspects are seen fleeing back out of the schoolyard through the gates, intending to mount the scooter and escape the scene.
Northern District police investigators who were called to the scene following a report received at the 100 emergency line opened an intensive investigation, collected testimonies and gathered evidence that led to the identification and arrest of the stabbing suspect, a 19-year-old resident of Iksal.
After investigating, the Northern District Prosecutor's Office filed a prosecutor's statement against the suspect ahead of filing an indictment in Nof HaGalil-Nazareth. Police emphasize that they are operating in a determined and uncompromising fight against violence and lawbreakers, particularly within educational institutions, to safeguard public and student security and bring offenders to justice.
