Waiter Arrested Mid-Wedding in Crown Heights for Stealing Guests' Credit Cards

A waiter working a wedding at the Ohalei Torah hall in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of stealing credit cards from guests during the simcha.

The incident came to light when one of the women celebrating at the wedding noticed her credit card had disappeared. Her suspicion quickly turned to one of the waiters serving at the hall.

According to Crown Heights Info, the woman decided to act. She approached the waiter and confronted him directly. During the confrontation, the truth emerged: the waiter was found in possession of several other credit cards belonging to women and guests who had come to celebrate at the event.

Once the theft was discovered, volunteers from the Crown Heights Shomrim were called to the scene. The volunteers arrived quickly and worked closely with officers from the NYPD's 77th Precinct.

Police arrested the suspect at the hall, and he was taken for further investigation on suspicion of grand larceny.

Following the incident, Crown Heights Shomrim issued a public statement thanking the alert citizens who reported what was happening in real time. The organization called on residents and those attending simchos to remain vigilant and to guard their personal belongings carefully.

Shomrim emphasized that at large events and wedding halls, where many outside staff and service providers are working, there is an increased need to watch wallets and credit cards closely. The organization also distributed its emergency number (718-774-3333) for immediate reporting of any suspicious activity in the neighborhood.

This is one of several incidents that have occurred in Crown Heights in recent weeks. In recent days, a coordinated effort between Boro Park Shomrim volunteers and the Crown Heights technology team led to the arrest of two suspects who had terrorized residents of the chareidi neighborhoods.

In addition, a dramatic incident occurred early one morning when an antisemite shouting "Heil Hitler" chased a yeshiva bochur with a knife to a private home. The attacker was arrested after a complex police pursuit.
