A Bnei Brak man in his thirties has been charged with setting fire to a three-story apartment building on Rav Meshulam Ratt Street while families were inside, forcing residents to flee as the flames spread.
According to the indictment, the suspect entered the building’s courtyard, poured a flammable liquid on the ground near a storage area, set it alight and ran from the scene on foot.
Within minutes, the fire had climbed the building and reached the balconies of apartments on the upper floors, and residents fled their homes in panic. Three apartments were badly damaged, balconies were burned, and roof beams collapsed in the blaze.
Prosecutors allege that the arson was planned in advance. According to the indictment, the suspect came to the building intending to set it on fire, bringing or obtaining the flammable material for that purpose, and acted with the intention of endangering the residents’ safety.
No motive has been disclosed, and it is not known whether the suspect had any prior connection to the building’s residents.
The allegations have not yet been tested in court.
