Ingredients
250 grams shredded white cabbage (approximately half a large bag of pre-shredded cabbage)
1 large garlic clove, crushed
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
1 teaspoon vegetable soup powder
Salt to taste
Black or white pepper to taste
1 teaspoon sugar (optional, but adds pleasant balance to the flavors)
Preparation Instructions
1. Place the shredded cabbage in a large bowl.
2. In a small bowl, combine the sesame oil, crushed garlic, sesame seeds, soup powder, and sugar if using.
3. Pour the dressing over the cabbage and mix thoroughly.
4. Here's the key step that makes the difference: gently massage the cabbage with your hands for about 30 seconds to one minute. Don't crush it—just work it with your hands until all the strips are coated with dressing and begin to soften slightly.
5. Taste and add salt and pepper as needed.
6. Let the salad rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. During this time, the cabbage absorbs the garlic and sesame flavors while remaining crunchy.
Serve immediately—and consider making a larger batch than you initially planned.
Tip: If your cabbage is shredded very finely, limit the massage to about 30 seconds. The thinner the strips, the faster they soften.
Enjoy!
