IDF Responds to Controversial Footage from Southern Lebanon
The IDF issues a severe condemnation and opens an investigation after footage of a soldier smashing a statue of Jesus in the Lebanese village of Deir Siriane sparked international outrage. Northern Command announced it will assist in restoring the statue.

Footage of an IDF soldier operating during the ground maneuver in southern Lebanon has sparked a widespread social media outcry worldwide over the past few hours. In the video, the soldier is seen using a hammer to smash a statue of Jesus located in the village of Deir Siriane, an act perceived as a severe affront to the sensibilities of the local Christian community.
It should be noted that, unlike other villages in the south of the country, the IDF did not evacuate Christian villages. This incident threatens to create unnecessary tension with the local civilian population. Upon the release of the footage, the military launched a rapid investigation into the video's authenticity.
"An Absolute Departure from Expected Values"
Following the completion of an initial investigation, the IDF Spokesperson confirmed that the footage is indeed an authentic recording of a soldier operating in southern Lebanon. The IDF chose to take a firm stance against the act, clarifying that it has no place within the military ranks.
"The IDF views this incident with great severity and emphasizes that the soldier's behavior is an absolute departure from the values expected of combatants," the IDF Spokesperson's statement read.
The incident is currently being investigated by the Northern Command and is being handled through disciplinary channels. Measures will be taken against those involved based on the findings of the investigation.
IDF to Assist in Restoring the Statue
In an unusual move of "damage control," Northern Command announced its intention to act in order to assist the community of Deir Siriane in returning the situation to its former state and restoring the damaged statue. The goal is to convey a reassuring message to the Christian population in Lebanon and the entire world.
The IDF Spokesperson emphasized the objectives of the operation:
