Senator Lindsey Graham has issued a strong public call for President Donald Trump to maintain total control over the Strait of Hormuz, framing the ongoing maritime blockade as a critical component of American strategy. According to Graham, the economic pressure currently exerted by the blockade is effectively crushing the Iranian economy, a development he believes has left the regime desperate and reactive. He specifically pointed to the recent attacks on international shipping by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as clear evidence that the regime is feeling the weight of these restrictive measures. Graham has urged the President to hold the line, suggesting that by controlling this vital chokepoint, the administration will effectively hold all the cards in the broader war.

Beyond the immediate maritime enforcement, Senator Graham has taken a rigid stance on the issue of nuclear enrichment. He explicitly warned against any agreements that would grant the Iranian regime the right to enrich nuclear material, even under a temporary moratorium. Drawing a direct comparison between the Iranian leadership and al Qaeda, Graham argued that the two entities share the same fundamental goals and represent an identical threat to international security. He underscored that a regime with American blood on its hands must be denied any pathway to nuclear capability.

In his remarks, the Senator dismissed the possibility of returning to any agreement reminiscent of the JCPOA, stating clearly that such a deal should never occur under the current administration. He described the Iranian government as a terrorist regime that consistently cheats and lies, suggesting that diplomatic engagement is inherently flawed when dealing with such an actor. For Graham, the path forward is singular and defined by sustained economic isolation and military strength. By keeping the blockade in place and refusing to compromise on enrichment, he believes the United States can force a definitive change in the regime's behavior. The Senator’s comments reflect a growing sentiment within the administration and its allies that the era of concessions has ended, replaced by a policy of uncompromising strategic containment aimed at stripping the regime of its ability to project power globally.
