Israel's National Labor Court has ordered a significant new review in a dispute over salary deductions at Chinuch Atzmai, one of the country's largest haredi (ultra-Orthodox) educational networks. The court largely accepted an appeal by teachers and sent the case back to the regional labor court for fresh factual and legal examination.
The decision could expose the network to substantial financial liability. Teachers claim that for years, amounts were deducted from their salaries for "Keren HaChinuch LaTorah" (the Education Fund for Torah) without their explicit written consent—a practice they say violated Israeli labor law.
