Degel: "We didn't say we'd back him"

Senior Degel HaTorah figure doesn't rule out sitting with former IDF chief Eisenkot, and explains why Yahadut HaTorah is holding back from recommending Netanyahu: We were the doormat of the last term

Degel HaTorah Official Ends Speculation: We Didn't Say We'd Back Him

A senior Degel HaTorah figure and education official, Rav Motke Bloy, has addressed the party's political relationships and future coalition possibilities, praising MK and former IDF chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot and not ruling out sitting with him in a coalition. In his remarks, Rav Bloy also explained the chareidi party's current position on recommending Binyamin Netanyahu to the President.

"Eisenkot is one of ours, a Moroccan Jew and traditional," Rav Bloy said of Eisenkot. But he qualified the statement and made clear the decision is not his to make: "I didn't say we would support Eisenkot. Our gedolei Torah decide, and they will tell us what to do."

"They made us worse than the Nochbas"

In his remarks, Rav Bloy leveled sharp criticism at the treatment the chareidi public and its parties received during the outgoing term, and cited that as the reason for caution in their current political steps.

"We were the doormat of the last term," Rav Bloy said sharply. "They made us worse than the Nukhbas, and blamed us for disasters."
