The Torah world is in mourning following the sudden passing of the Gaon Rabbi Yeshayahu Frankel Zt"l, who served as the Rosh Kollel of 'Midrash Eliyahu' from its inception until his final moments. Rabbi Frankel collapsed unexpectedly in his home this morning and passed away at the age of 74.
A Life Dedicated to Torah and Halacha
Born to Rabbi Moshe Frankel Zt"l, the late sage was a distinguished alumnus of the Ponevezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak. After his marriage to the daughter of Rabbi Yosef Horovitz ztz"l, he established his home in the Kiryat Herzog neighborhood of Bnei Brak.
Rabbi Frankel was recognized as a premier Halakhic authority in his neighborhood and throughout the city. Known for his exceptional warmth and accessibility, he welcomed community members seeking counsel at all hours, receiving every person with a "shining countenance."
Leadership of 'Midrash Eliyahu'
The central pillar of Rabbi Frankel's life was his leadership of 'Kollel 'Midrash Eliyahu'. For decades, he dedicated himself to the spiritual and intellectual development of his students, raising generations of scholars with profound devotion. He was considered a primary address for those seeking both Torah knowledge and practical guidance.
This morning, Rabbi Frankel collapsed suddenly at his residence. Despite prolonged resuscitation efforts by emergency medical teams, he returned his soul to his Creator. He is survived by a large family of sons and grandchildren who continue his path of Torah and Mitzvos.
The funeral procession (Levaya) is scheduled to depart today, Monday, February 23, 2026, according to the following itinerary:
14:00: Departure from his home at 39 Abramsky Street, Bnei Brak.
Procession Route: Passing through the 'Chanichei HaYeshivot - Kerem Yisrael' synagogue at 7 Ganichovsky Street.
Interment: He will be laid to rest at the Ponevezh Cemetery Netzivei Yeshivat Ponevezh).
