A 25-year-old yeshiva student sustained critical injuries Monday evening after being struck by a motorcycle during Peleg Yerushalmi demonstrations that blocked Route 4 near Ganot Junction in central Israel. The incident occurred as hundreds of protesters converged on one of the country's major traffic arteries in response to ongoing arrests of yeshiva students.

The injured protester was transported to Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer in serious condition, suffering from head trauma and injuries to his limbs. Magen David Adom paramedics who treated him at the scene described finding him disoriented and lying at the roadside following the collision.

Emergency Response at Chaotic Scene

MDA paramedics Avi Raymond, Naftali Halberstam, and Moshe Weinman provided details of the emergency response. "We observed the pedestrian lying at the side of the road in an altered state of consciousness, suffering from severe bodily trauma after being struck by a motorcycle at the demonstration site," they stated. "We administered life-saving medical treatment and evacuated him to the hospital in serious condition."

According to MDA's emergency dispatch center, the initial report was received at 6:46 PM. Emergency medical teams arrived rapidly and provided advanced care before transporting the injured man to Sheba Medical Center, where he arrived conscious but with significant head and limb injuries.

Mass Demonstrations Block Major Arteries

The incident occurred during coordinated mass demonstrations launched by the Peleg Yerushalmi faction at 5:00 PM across multiple locations. Hundreds of protesters simultaneously blocked the entrance to Jerusalem, Begin Highway in the capital, and Ganot Junction—one of the most critical traffic nodes in the Gush Dan metropolitan area.

The demonstrations were organized in response to what Peleg leadership characterized as systematic persecution of Torah scholars and the detention of approximately 50 yeshiva students and kollel members. Route 4 was closed in both directions, creating severe traffic congestion throughout central Israel during evening rush hour.

Police Response and Traffic Disruptions

Israel Police deployed significant forces to the scene in an effort to clear the roadway. Officers issued formal warnings that the demonstration constituted an illegal assembly and began implementing crowd dispersal procedures. "Police forces are operating with the objective of clearing the roadway, as demonstrators are not complying with officers' instructions," a police spokesperson stated. "A police commander declared this an unlawful protest before employing force and activating crowd control measures."

Law enforcement officials worked to redirect motorists to alternative routes while attempting to restore normal traffic flow. The police emphasized that while they respect the right to protest, they would not permit disruptions to public order or actions that endanger public safety.

Escalating Tensions Over Draft Enforcement

Monday's demonstrations represented the latest escalation in ongoing tensions between Haredi communities and authorities over military conscription. The protests followed a dramatic incident in Beit Shemesh over the weekend, when hundreds of protesters breached a police station compound after a yeshiva student was arrested and transferred to military custody.

The Peleg Yerushalmi faction stated that the demonstrations were conducted "following the directive of our rabbanim, in a series of stormy protests throughout the country, in protest against the severe assault on the Torah world and the rights of yeshiva students and kollel scholars to continue their Torah study without fear."
