After Democrats Recommend Eisenkot, Herzog Asks: Is it Always Yes-Bibi or No-Bibi?

The Democrats faction arrived Thursday at the President's Residence for consultations and recommended to President Yitzchak Herzog that Gadi Eisenkot be tasked with forming the next government. The delegation included MK Efrat Reyten, MK Naama Lazimi, MK Gilad Karib, Gabriella Lasky-Schutz, and Yaya Fink.

MK Karib told Herzog that "a decision was reached in the elections. It's difficult to translate it into governing reality, but there is a clear decision of 67 mandates against the continuation of Netanyahu's rule, and that was the central question."

During the meeting, the president posed a sharp question to the party representatives: "I ask myself every time what you'll do after Netanyahu retires. What will be the parties' campaign? I argue with him endlessly, but is all of life yes Netanyahu or no Netanyahu? Hasn't the time come for the party to go toward something big and shared?"

Herzog turned personally to MK Naama Lazimi and said: "I paid heavy prices for wanting unity, and Naama demonstrated against me for wanting unity, that's how she started her career." Lazimi responded briefly: "True. True. Mr. President."

The recommendation of Eisenkot comes against the backdrop of efforts to form a joint front to replace the current government.Leaders of the Joint List met this week with Democrats chairman Yair Golan to coordinate moves, as part of efforts to realize the parliamentary majority against Netanyahu.
