Grande to Trump: Stop Using My Music

Pop star responds sharply after Trump campaign uses her song in TikTok video promoting controversial message, calling his claims "a lie" and demanding he cease using her work.

Trump; Ariana Grande

Pop superstar Ariana Grande has publicly confronted U.S. President Donald Trump after his campaign team incorporated one of her songs into a political video posted on social media. The singer responded directly to the post, criticizing both the unauthorized use of her music and the message conveyed in the video, explicitly demanding that Trump's team refrain from using her work in the future.

The video appeared on Team Trump's TikTok account, featuring Grande's hit song "We Can't Be Friends (Wait For Your Love)" as its soundtrack. The footage showed Trump walking toward a stage at a rally, with text overlays first referencing "his truth," followed by statements asserting that men cannot give birth and should not compete in women's sports.

"Your truth is a lie"

Grande did not let the unauthorized use pass without comment. In a response posted beneath the video, she wrote: "don't use my music again. and also, your truth is a lie." Her statement addressed both the copyright violation and directly challenged the political message Trump's team was promoting through the video.

However, her comment has since disappeared from the post. Major international media outlets documented and reported on her response while it was still visible, but it remains unclear who removed it. The song itself has also been stripped from the video.

A recurring issue

This marks at least the second time Grande has objected to the Trump administration's use of her music. Last June, her song "Bye" was featured in a video related to U.S. immigration enforcement activities. On that occasion as well, she responded sharply and demanded that her music not be associated with the published content.

Now, just months after that earlier confrontation, the use of another of her songs has prompted yet another forceful response from the artist—this time with a particularly direct message aimed at Trump and his team.
