The Democrats party, led by Yair Golan, has escalated its campaign to secure official protection for its chairman, issuing a stark ultimatum to Israel's security establishment.
In an urgent warning letter sent Wednesday to Shin Bet director David Zinni, the opposition party demanded an immediate decision on security arrangements for Golan. The letter sets a hard deadline of Sunday, September 27, after which the party vows to file a petition with the High Court of Justice.
The demand comes after police raised the threat level facing Golan to Level 4, the same security tier assigned to Yesh Atid chairman Gadi Eisenkot. Party officials argue that given the elevated threat assessment and accumulated intelligence regarding risks to Golan, immediate protective measures are warranted.
