Missing Israelis Case

Found Israeli Pair Still Silent, Family Says

Mali and Liel Yahalomi located healthy in Argentina five days ago, but relatives say they have received no contact since

Relatives of Mali and Liel Yehalomi say they remain worried and frustrated despite confirmation that the mother and daughter were found safe in Argentina. According to a report in Israel Hayom today (Wednesday), the two women have not been in touch with family members in Israel since they were located.

"We wish they would make contact and give us answers," one family member told the paper. The relative said tha they did not reach out on Saturday, when they were found aboard an intercity bus in Argentina, nor in the five days that have passed since then.

The report also noted that Mali did not formally resign from her position at a bank before departing Israel. This detail adds to a series of facts suggesting the disappearance was planned in advance, yet also indicates the pair left without closing circles with those closest to them.

The intensive international search for the mother and daughter concluded when the two were located on an intercity bus in Argentina. Deputy Commissioner Walter Kogan, the Israeli police representative in South America, spoke with them in person and confirmed they were healthy and safe, not under any threat or danger, and had arrived in the country of their own free will.

Because both women are adults who are not suspected of any crime and are not wanted by authorities, law enforcement's role ended once it was established they were not in life-threatening danger. Under international law and protocols, every adult has the right to sever contact and choose their place of residence in complete privacy, without police monitoring.

The entire affair and the legal-ethical questions it raises have already received extensive attention in Argentine media as well. According to the report, media outlets in the country have been discussing at length the question of how far police may continue deploying investigative measures and international resources once it becomes clear that adults have chosen to disappear voluntarily.

Meanwhile, reports in South American media suggest Argentina may not necessarily be their final destination --- the two explored options to continue traveling to other countries in the region, including Paraguay, Chile, and Ecuador, apparently with the goal of starting a new chapter in their lives.

However, no confirmed information has been received indicating they have actually moved to any of these countries. Police sources clarified that Mali had no outstanding debts, and that she withdrew severance payments more than a year ago and used those funds to finance the planned journey. While law enforcement considers its objective achieved and the case closed with the discovery that the women are alive, family members in Israel are left without answers, worried and praying for a sign of life that might ease the difficult tension.
