Flight Instructor Loses Control: Helicopter Spins and Crashes on Camera

A flight lesson at Cedar City Regional Airport in Utah turned into a terrifying ordeal when a Bell 206 helicopter lost control and began spinning uncontrollably before hitting the ground multiple times.

According to the report, the flight instructor lost control of the aircraft while making an adjustment to the engine throttle. The helicopter began moving backward, lost altitude, and struck the runway. After the initial impact, it lifted off again, spun in the air, and crashed a second time, with part of its tail breaking off during the incident.

The accident occurred on May 23, but security camera footage was only recently released by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) as part of its incident report.

Both the instructor and student aboard the helicopter sustained minor injuries. According to the investigation's findings, no mechanical failure was discovered, and the cause of the accident was determined to be loss of control during hovering operations.
