Warning Issued on Alaska Mineral Water

Bottles imported from Palestinian Authority without proper oversight or approval pose unknown safety risks, officials say

Health Ministry Warns: Don't Drink Alaska-Brand Mineral Water

Israel's Health Ministry issued a public warning today urging consumers to avoid Alaska-brand mineral water. The water is drawn from a well in the Shomron region (est Bank) by a Palestinian Authority-based company operating without any production oversight or known safety standards.

Food service inspectors seized a container of Alaska water bottles that had been brought into Israel from Palestinian Authority territory illegally and without the required permits. Because the production conditions and safety protocols are unknown and the product is not subject to Health Ministry supervision, officials say the water poses potential health risks.

The ministry is warning the public not to use the water in any bottle size or expiration date.

In a statement, the Health Ministry said: "The public is asked not to consume these products and to take care to purchase food and beverage products only from recognized sources and licensed distributors."

The ministry's Food Service will continue working to identify cases of food being brought into Israel in violation of legal requirements or without necessary permits. "Wherever violations of Israeli legislation and standards are found, all measures available to the ministry will be taken, in cooperation with the relevant authorities," officials said.
