The head of the IDF's Manpower Directorate has formally discharged Lt. Col. A., who served as intelligence officer for the Gaza Division on October 7, bringing to a close months of legal and administrative proceedings. The decision follows the Chief of Staff's determination that the officer bore command responsibility for failures leading up to the Hamas massacre.
According to the IDF Spokesperson, "In recent months, proceedings have been conducted to terminate the service of the Gaza Division intelligence officer on October 7, and these proceedings have now concluded. As part of the process to release him from his commitment, all relevant considerations were examined, including the opinion of the Deputy Chief of Staff, findings from investigations and responses from professional authorities regarding failures in his performance in the period preceding the events of October 7, as well as all his arguments regarding the extent of his responsibility, as presented to the advisory committee both orally and in writing."
"The head of the Manpower Directorate has now decided to release the officer from his commitment and terminate his service in the IDF, after reviewing the recommendations of the advisory committee regarding the release from commitment in the officer's case," the statement continued. "The decision has been conveyed to the officer as customary. The officer may appeal the decision to the Chief of Staff."
