Presidential Visit

Macron Searched for Seat – Troops Ignored Him

French president visited Air Force base with personal tray, but young recruits didn't stand or make room for their commander-in-chief | Echoes infamous 2017 incident

Macron Searched for a Seat in Air Force Mess Hall – Troops Kept Eating

French President Emmanuel Macron visited Air Force Base 115 in Orange-Caritat, southern France, to meet with the first cohort of volunteers in the country's new national military service program. During the visit, the president entered the base mess hall carrying his own food tray and searched for an available seat among the crowded tables.

The young recruits and volunteers enlisted in the military track continued their meal as usual, neither rising from their seats nor clearing space at their tables for the nation's leader. Macron walked between the rows holding a tray with his signature dish, cordon bleu, rice and vegetables.

The scene recalled a famous 2017 incident when Macron stopped at a gas station during his election campaign and asked to order cordon bleu. The future president was told the dish was only available on the children's menu, forcing him to choose something else.

Nine years later, the president stood in the military mess hall receiving his preferred meal, with media cameras documenting the moment. The base visit was designed to demonstrate Macron's commitment to the new national service program and strengthen ties between political leadership and the younger generation of recruits.
