Engineering forces discover massive underground passage near Deir al-Balah that crosses the Yellow Line; dozens of concrete trucks deployed to seal the tunnel
Nearly three years into the war, IDF forces continue to locate extensive terror tunnels throughout Gaza.
The IDF Spokesperson announced Wednesday afternoon that "as part of the effort to clear the Gaza Strip, Southern Command engineering forces today located an underground tunnel route approximately 600 meters long in the central camps area. The route begins east of the Yellow Line, crosses it, and continues deep into the territory."
Dozens of concrete trucks are currently sealing the tunnel.
About a month ago, forces from the Paratroopers Brigade Combat Team, under the command of the Gaza Division (143), discovered an underground route containing dozens of rockets belonging to terror organizations operating in Gaza. The route was destroyed in cooperation with Gaza Division engineering forces and the Yahalom unit.
The discovery joins a series of operational achievements by IDF forces in the southern Strip in recent months. The combat team of the 188th Brigade recently concluded eight months of operations in southern Gaza, during which more than ten tunnels were destroyed and dozens of terrorists were eliminated.
Among the tunnels destroyed by the 188th Brigade was a route that formed part of a tunnel system used to hold hostages during the war. In additional routes, forces located and destroyed extensive combat equipment, including rockets, rocket launchers, grenades, Kalashnikov rifles, magazines, explosives, and other combat gear.
