Iran Regime Braces for Internal Revolt Amid US Sanctions

Iran's government is showing signs of deep concern about the possibility of domestic civil unrest that could destabilize or even topple the regime in Tehran.

In recent days, multiple indicators have emerged suggesting active preparations within Iran for a potential coup attempt or popular uprising. Basij forces, the civilian suppression units of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, have been deployed throughout the capital and most provinces across the country.

During anti-government protests in January of this year, Basij forces were responsible for killing tens of thousands of demonstrators, according to reports from Iran.

Throughout Tehran and around government buildings, authorities are erecting walls, fences, and heavy stone barriers at intersections and major roads, apparently designed to prevent access to concentrations of regime facilities.

These preparations suggest that Iran's leadership sees few options for dealing with American sanctions and fears that continued economic damage and deteriorating conditions could trigger an unprecedented uprising.

Paradoxically, these very measures may accelerate the regime's downfall. Many Iranians view these steps as signs of panic rather than calculated strategy.

These assessments are already playing out on the ground. According to Iranian reports, Abdolauf Ashaghi, commander of the Basij base in Farud in Balochistan province, was recently killed by armed gunmen. The Baloch people are considered the ethnic group most openly rebellious against the Tehran regime, and the friction with security forces in the province appears to be pushing residents toward action against regime personnel rather than deterring them.
