Tehran has announced it will intensify efforts to mitigate economic damage from American sanctions, while a senior Iranian official warned of severe retaliation if the country faces further attacks. The warning comes amid renewed military confrontations between U.S. forces and Iranian units in the Persian Gulf.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of Iran's parliament, declared that the rules of engagement have changed. "From now on, any attack against Iran's interests and security will receive a faster, heavier, and more painful response," Ghalibaf stated. He emphasized that Iran's primary struggle now centers on production and ensuring citizens' livelihoods.
U.S. Central Command announced strikes on three Iranian oil tankers, carried out in response to ballistic missile launches by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeting two American warships. Admiral Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander, delivered a blunt message: "Let it be clear to the Revolutionary Guards: if you fire on two of our ships, we will impose an even higher economic price and take three of yours out of action."
In response to mounting pressure, Iran's Ministry of Economy has established an economic war headquarters. Economy Minister Ali Madanizadeh rejected claims that American pressure would succeed.
"They talk about economic pressure and isolation, about cutting financial ties, and they think that by squeezing a country's economy they can change the decisions of its people," Madanizadeh said. "I must clarify one point: responsibility for Iran's economic ground lies with its government and people, not with the United States Treasury Department."
Meanwhile, the IRGC Navy warned vessels against using unauthorized routes through the Strait of Hormuz. A Revolutionary Guards statement cautioned: "Do not be tempted by the 'terrorist' U.S. military and avoid any suspicious movement aimed at passing through unauthorized waterways. Otherwise, you will become a target." Iranian sources also reported downing an American surveillance drone near Erbil.
Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad addressed the situation at the main oil facility on Kharg Island. Paknejad noted that the island has been attacked approximately 550 times in recent months, yet the facility continues operating. According to him, Iran's naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz continues to affect global fuel prices and pressure international markets.
