Israel Retaliates Against UK Sanctions

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar outlined four concrete steps Israel will take in response to what he called Britain's "hostile" Labour government policies, including closing the British consulate in Jerusalem

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar announced Tuesday a series of retaliatory measures against Britain, acting on behalf of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The steps come in response to new sanctions imposed by Britain's Labour government, which Sa'ar characterized as part of a systematic pattern of hostile actions against Israel.

In his statement, Sa'ar sharply criticized remarks made in the British Parliament, calling the accusations leveled by Labour's foreign secretary "outrageous and false." He was careful to distinguish between the British government and its citizens, emphasizing that Israel's grievance is with the administration in London, not the British people. "We know we have many friends in Britain," Sa'ar said, adding that unfortunately, "a hostile Labour government is in office that acts systematically against the State of Israel and has left us no choice but to respond to its hostile moves."
