Nearly two decades after completing his military service, U.S. Vice President JD Vance returned to a Marine Corps obstacle course, tackling the demanding physical challenge in a video that has since gone viral.
In footage posted to TikTok on Tuesday, Vance can be seen working his way through the course alongside active-duty Marines. While he appeared to struggle somewhat to match the pace of current servicemembers, the vice president persevered through a series of obstacles including running segments, pull-ups, climbing exercises, and hurdle crossings.
Vance, who served in the Marine Corps between 2003 and 2007 and reached the rank of corporal, approached the challenge with self-deprecating humor, remarking that he hoped not to "crash and break bones." The video also featured his son, who was shown climbing a rope with assistance from his father.
The vice president enlisted in the Marines immediately after high school and served primarily in public affairs and military communications roles. In 2005, he was deployed to Iraq for approximately six months in a non-combat capacity.
