Nine people sustained minor injuries Wednesday morning at the municipal swimming pool in Kiryat Gat, a city in southern Israel, after approximately 100 liters of hydrochloric acid spilled into the facility, according to Fire and Rescue Services. Police officials explained that a pipe containing chlorine became disconnected, and individuals present at the scene inhaled dangerous fumes.

Authorities closed the pool and launched an investigation into the incident.

Fire and Rescue Services reported receiving an emergency call at 10:45 a.m. alerting them to a hazardous materials incident at the Kiryat Gat municipal pool.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and worked to contain the spill of approximately 100 liters of hydrochloric acid. Firefighters conducted systematic searches to locate any additional victims, monitored the area using specialized detection equipment, and worked to dilute the dangerous substance and eliminate the threat.

Medical personnel treated nine injured individuals at the site, with five requiring transport to hospital. Emergency teams remained on location until the hazard was fully neutralized.

Authorities urged the public to stay away from the area to allow emergency responders to work safely.
