Mansour Abbas, chairman of the Ra'am party and member of Israel's Knesset, has issued his first response to the political storm triggered by statements he made at his party's conference. Abbas sought to clarify his position regarding recognition of a Palestinian state.
In his response to criticism, Abbas explained that "the Palestinian Authority is Palestine, it has the status of a state and Israel recognizes it." He positioned his movement as a mediating force, stating: "We are the bridge to peace. In our view, the two-state solution is the proper solution that will end the conflict."
The clarification follows controversial remarks that drew condemnation across Israel's political spectrum. Abbas emphasized that from his perspective, the framework of a Palestinian state already exists on the ground and is recognized by significant portions of the international community.
