Constitutional and administrative law expert Adv. Guy Busi addressed speculation about coordination between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and retired Maj. Gen. Ofer Winter during a Tuesday interview on Radio 103FM.
"They are absolutely not coordinating in any way," Busi stated. "Winter received an offer for a high reserved spot [on the Likud list] and refused it. The best thing Netanyahu wants is for Winter not to run independently."
Netanyahu is not alone in his concerns. Numerous right-wing activists, worried about the possibility of the right-wing bloc fragmenting in the upcoming elections, are pushing for various parties and lists to merge, including efforts to unite figures like Bezalel Smotrich with Moshe Feiglin and Winter.
Several days ago, a report on i24NEWS by Amiel Yarkhi revealed deep concern within Netanyahu's circle about Winter's potential entry into the political arena. According to that report, Netanyahu has been warning in private conversations about a scenario in which Winter's candidacy could severely damage the right-wing bloc and result in the loss of critical Knesset mandates.
The report quoted Netanyahu directly: "I don't trust Winter. Either he'll burn votes for the right or he'll take votes from the right and transfer them to a government led by Eisenkot, together with [Naftali] Bennett and Yair Golan."
