Popular Israeli singer Omer Adam married Sacha Israelovich on Wednesday evening in a lavish affair in Portofino, Italy, with approximately 100 guests invited to the celebration.
But this wasn't your typical destination wedding. The venue was an extraordinary event space housed in a converted 14th-century Christian monastery in Portofino, which somehow makes the whole affair feel even more dramatic, a medieval monastery hosting one of Israel's biggest music stars. The irony practically writes itself.
The Guest Experience: Phone-Free and Fabulous
Guests were asked to leave their mobile phones at the entrance to maintain the event's privacy, which means the wedding photos will come from one carefully curated source, not a chaos of Instagram Stories.
A Wardrobe for Every Occasion
The dress code was as multi-layered as the event itself. Guests were asked to follow a strict dress code: festive, colorful party looks for the welcome reception and black-tie suits and evening gowns for the wedding ceremony, with one important rule: nothing black.
When Motty Steinmetz Shows Up, You Change Your Whole Plan
Musical accompaniment was provided by Hassidic singer Motty Steinmetz, whose music Adam is a fan of. Among the songs Steinmetz performed during the ceremony were the prayer "Ana Bekoach" and "Im Eshkachech Yerushalaim" (If I forget thee, O Jerusalem).
But Steinmetz doesn't travel light, metaphorically speaking. As previously reported, women and men were seated separately at the ceremony. Steinmetz conditions his appearance at weddings on separate seating at the ceremony, and the condition is enshrined in his contract. During the ceremony, the emissary blew a shofar, adding yet another layer of tradition to this decidedly modern Israeli pop star's big day.
Officiating at the chuppah ceremony were Rabbi Levi Yitzhak Hazzan, the Chabad emissary in Milan, and Rabbi Mendi Gurviz, the Chabad emissary in Mishmar Hashiva.
