CIA Director John Ratcliffe made a highly unusual secret trip to Moscow this week, American media outlets revealed Thursday night, underscoring Washington's deep concern about potential Russian military moves against NATO territory and Moscow's growing partnership with Tehran.
According to reports published in The Wall Street Journal and Politico, Ratcliffe conducted his first official visit to the Russian capital on Tuesday. The primary objective was to deliver a direct warning to senior Russian officials against testing NATO's resolve in the coming years, a message that reflects American intelligence assessments of possible Russian provocations.
The visit comes amid heightened U.S. anxiety about two interconnected threats: the possibility of limited Russian military action against a NATO member state, and the deepening Moscow-Tehran axis that American officials view as destabilizing to the Middle East.
