Pentagon medical command issues report praising IDF battlefield medicine throughout the war, demands immediate adoption of Israeli protocols that cut combat deaths nearly in half since 2006

Battlefield medical research

A report compiled by the central command of the US Army Medical Corps together with Pentagon research institutes has praised Israel's success in treating battlefield casualties, and demands immediate adoption of the protocols and tools Israel developed that led to the success in the campaign.

The document, published and circulated in recent days among command staffs of the US Army, Navy, and Marines, describes a genuine revolution on the battlefield. According to the data, the IDF Medical Corps has succeeded in reducing the number of killed in action by nearly half since the figures from the Second Lebanon War.

According to the data, since 2006 Israel has succeeded in dramatically reducing the number of battlefield deaths, with consistent and measurable improvements over time. According to the research, the fatality rate among casualties (the percentage of those wounded in combat who die from their injuries) dropped from 14.3% in the Second Lebanon War (2006) to 9.2% (Operation Protective Edge, 2014) and then to just 7.2% (Swords of Iron, 2023–2025).

According to the report's conclusions, the protocols Israel developed enable life-saving success on a dramatic scale. The research particularly noted actions such as attaching medical teams and a unit physician to nearly every operational activity during the war, carrying refrigerated blood components (plasma) with forces in the field, shortening wait times for evacuation or arrival of respiratory and support equipment to the field to just minutes instead of tens of minutes, and a series of additional developments and measures.

The senior command of the US military medical corps sent an urgent letter to lawmakers and the Department of Defense, with a direct demand to adopt the Israeli operations in the US military immediately. A senior figure in the medical corps stated: "These are phenomenal achievements and unprecedented reduction in fatalities. The feasible protocols must be adopted immediately in preparation for possible future conflicts. The time to do this is now."
