7 Guns Seized at Jordan Valley Border

Joint operation by IDF, Border Police and Shin Bet foiled weapons smuggling attempt at eastern border; armed suspect fled after being shot during arrest attempt

Seven Handguns Seized at Jordan Valley Border

Israeli security forces thwarted an attempt to smuggle seven handguns across the eastern border last Thursday, Israel Police announced Sunday. The operation involved multiple security agencies working together based on intelligence about active smuggling routes in the area.

The joint statement from Israel Police and the IDF Spokesperson identified the participating units as fighters from the Jordan Valley and Valleys Brigade, Border Police special forces from the Judea and Samaria district, and detectives from the Jordan Border Unit. The forces set up an operational ambush near the eastern border after the Central Unit of the police's intelligence division gathered information about smuggling activity in the region.

During the stakeout, forces spotted a suspect armed with a knife in the Jordan River area. Soldiers initiated arrest procedures, which included firing at the suspect in an attempt to stop him. The suspect was hit by the gunfire but managed to escape. Security personnel pursued him unsuccessfully.

While chasing the suspect, forces discovered a bag that had been discarded at the scene. Inside were seven handguns intended for smuggling into Israeli territory. The weapons were transferred to the Central Unit of the police intelligence division for further investigation and handling.
