Yair Netanyahu Iran Threat: Shin Bet Confirms Miami Risk

Israel's Shin Bet security service has officially confirmed that Yair Netanyahu, son of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was under "significant threat" while residing in the Miami area of the United States. The agency decided to fly him back to Israel urgently, accompanied by his protective security detail from the VIP Protection Unit.

The affair came to full public attention following Prime Minister Netanyahu's interview remarks, in which he revealed that "Iran marked one of my sons" and attempted to harm him. Following this disclosure, American news network Newsmax reported extensively on the plot, stating that Israeli intelligence had identified an Iranian intention to assassinate Yair as early as December 2025, including the presence of hostile elements conducting surveillance around his residence in the Hallandale Beach area.

Security officials in Israel were quick to clarify that despite the dramatic reports from abroad, the intelligence involved general information about intentions to harm senior figures, not a concrete warning about an imminent attack. "The information concerned a broad intention to harm Israeli officials, not a specific plot about to be executed," security sources explained.

This stands in contrast to claims made by Yair Netanyahu himself in a formal complaint letter he sent against Haaretz journalist Uri Misgav. In his letter, Netanyahu claimed that Shin Bet guards dealt with a terrorist cell that reached his doorstep and that disaster was averted thanks to their resourcefulness. "Following those publications, terrorist operatives sent by Iranian intelligence physically arrived at the doorstep of the address in question in Miami," the letter alleged.

Misgav rejected the claims entirely, calling them "fake." Security sources stated that "we are not familiar here with a last-minute thwarting that was about to be carried out," thereby clarifying that no incident is known in which a terror cell was stopped or an assassination against the younger Netanyahu in Miami was prevented.

Despite reservations about the nature of the immediate threat, the Shin Bet chose not to take unnecessary risks. As part of its preparedness and desire to avoid taking chances, the agency decided to drastically increase the security apparatus around the prime minister's son and instructed him to return to Israel immediately. According to the American report, Israeli intelligence identified the serious threat in December and alerted local authorities, leading Netanyahu to leave his personal belongings behind and fly directly to Israel.

Since his return to Israel, he has been living under tight security protection. The entire incident has refocused public debate on the security arrangements for members of the Netanyahu family, sparking sharp controversy over costs, necessity, and the policy of protecting individuals outside the country's borders against the terror arms of the Iranian regime.
