New Security Concern

Syrian Group Threatens IDF in Golan

A newly formed Syrian militia calling itself the "Yarmouk Martyrs Group" has released a video threatening Israeli forces and declaring its intent to join the "resistance" against Israel

Syrian Armed Group

A newly organized armed group in Syria has issued threats to carry out attacks against Israeli Defense Forces soldiers operating in the buffer zone on the Golan Heights. In a video released by the militia, fighters displayed their weapons arsenal, which notably included portable anti-aircraft missile systems, a concerning development for Israeli security.

The armed fighters in the video identify themselves as members of the "Yarmouk Martyrs Group." Yarmouk refers to a region south of Damascus, and is also the name of a Palestinian refugee camp in that area.

The group announced it is joining what it calls the "resistance war" against Israel, describing themselves as "martyrs" prepared to fight the IDF in defense of their land.

In the video, at least one fighter is carrying what appears to be a Strela MANPADS system, a portable shoulder-fired surface-to-air missile launcher capable of targeting aircraft, a weapon that poses significant concern for Israeli air operations.

The terrorists threatened:

"Today we begin our blessed campaign to earn the honor of jihad and combat against the most severe enemies of G-d and the killers of His prophets and messengers, the Zionist Jews.
The Zionist enemy does not need a pretext to occupy our land and attack us, as its criminal history against Arabs and Muslims demonstrates. And here we are, the sons of Hauran, who have chosen the path of combat and confrontation, after witnessing the international, Arab, and local disregard for the ongoing attacks and violations our people suffer.
Their goal is to uproot our people and empty our regions for the benefit of Jewish settlement. In closing, we say to you: All glory and appreciation to our people standing firm in Hauran, mercy upon the martyrs, freedom for the prisoners and the disappeared, and patience and consolation to the families of the martyrs. And we say to the traitors and collaborators: We continue on the path of victory or martyrdom."

Until now, the Syrian front has been the quietest of Israel's borders during the current war, particularly since Israeli forces took control of the buffer zone territory. However, this development could signal a that the quiet buffer zone will soon be an active combat area.
