A three-month-old infant was found unconscious in her bed this morning (Thursday) on HaAvoda Street in Ashkelon after she did not wake from her sleep. Family members discovered the baby unresponsive and immediately called emergency services. Paramedics and first responders arrived quickly and began advanced resuscitation efforts at the scene, with volunteer teams joining the effort.
The infant was evacuated to Barzilai Hospital in critical condition while resuscitation continued en route. Medical teams in the trauma room fought to save her life, but after a short time, doctors were forced to pronounce her death. The mother had been at the baby's side throughout.
Yaakov Amzaleg, a United Hatzalah paramedic, described the scene: "When I arrived, I saw the mother holding the infant, who was unconscious. I was told she had not woken from her sleep. I performed prolonged resuscitation and she was evacuated while resuscitation continued, in critical condition."
