Mike Johnson, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and a close ally of President Donald Trump, told FOX News that Washington's approach to Iran is about to shift dramatically, with multiple allied nations expected to join the American-led effort.
"I believe we're going to enter a new phase very soon," Johnson explained in the interview. "Our allies understand that things are changing, that Iran is the head of the snake. They will help us in the next phase and we will finish this."
Johnson emphasized the strategic goal behind the anticipated escalation. "They know the effort is to cut off the head of the snake, that we had to make sure they don't have nuclear weapons. Donald Trump did what hasn't been done in 50 years," he said.
Addressing reports about American efforts to disrupt Iranian oil exports, Johnson noted that while the United States would prefer a diplomatic resolution, Tehran cannot be trusted to negotiate in good faith.
"You can't trust the Iranians, even when you're sitting across the table from them," Johnson warned. "That lesson has been learned many times in recent years."
