A B-2 stealth bomber flew over Washington, D.C., leading an impressive formation of military aircraft that included fighter jets and the presidential Air Force One aircraft gifted by Qatar.
The aerial display took place as part of the Freedom 250 race events and caused a temporary halt to air traffic at Reagan National Airport, disrupting flight schedules. The sporting event was held in the heart of the capital, with race cars speeding at approximately 180 miles per hour around a circuit that passed major landmarks.
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump arrived at the race venue accompanied by family members and cabinet secretaries. Trump took a lap around the track in the presidential limousine known as "The Beast," then waved the green flag to signal the start of the competition.
In a pre-race interview, Trump explained that IndyCar owner Roger Penske had been trying to organize a race in Washington for 20 years, and the approval came through in just 15 minutes.
During the interview, Trump addressed the drivers, saying: "I don't want to say be safe because that's sort of a negative thought. They don't want to think about that, because if they do, then generally, you're not going to win." He added: "I want everyone to be safe, and I want people to enjoy themselves."
