Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced overnight that it had struck American bases in Jordan in retaliation for the US attack on Larak. Jordanian authorities reported hearing explosions from the launches, and the Jordanian military later confirmed it had intercepted eight missiles that entered its airspace. Iranian reports also claimed missiles were fired at US Navy vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC claimed the American strike on Larak resulted in casualties among both fighters and civilians. An IRGC spokesman escalated the rhetoric, calling the US action a "strategic and fatal mistake" by the Trump administration and warning that the American operation "will be met with punishment."
The developments follow a US military operation targeting two Iranian launch sites on Larak Island. According to a senior American official, US forces identified IRGC personnel preparing to launch rockets intended to deploy naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
US Central Command characterized the strike as a "limited and precise" operation designed to remove an immediate threat to shipping lanes. Washington maintains the action was necessary to protect civilian and commercial vessels and prevent renewed Iranian attempts to disrupt traffic through the strategic waterway.
