Northern Israel Residents Erupt After Drone Nearly Hits School Bus

A Hezbollah explosive drone strike in the Western Galilee community of Shomera on Thursday morning has ignited fierce criticism from northern residents who assert they have been abandoned by the government. The attack, which wounded 12 IDF soldiers and struck just meters from a school bus route during morning commute hours, has crystallized mounting frustration over what locals describe as inadequate protection along Israel's northern frontier.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:10 AM, when an advanced fiber-optic controlled drone evaded Israeli air defenses and struck an IDF artillery position. According to military reports, the UAV targeted vehicle M548, used to transport artillery shells, triggering secondary explosions that significantly escalated the danger. Two soldiers sustained moderate injuries while ten others were lightly wounded, with several requiring treatment for acute anxiety and hearing damage.

"Twenty Meters From Catastrophe"

Eldad Yogev, a Shomera resident who has relocated his family to Nahariya due to security concerns, conveyed his outrage in stark terms. "At 8:10, a school bus passed approximately 20 meters from where the drone struck," Yogev stated. "The terrorist only needed to raise the joystick two centimeters and this would have ended with 50 dead."

Yogev described the psychological toll on his family, noting that his child experiences severe anxiety during alert sirens. "My son hears a siren and loses control. I'm changing him and seeing that the impact is on my house in Shomera," he explained. "You've already taken our economy and businesses, but we are not willing to bury our children. What did we ask for? Just security."

Advanced Technology Bypasses Defenses

Military analysts emphasized that the Hezbollah drone utilized sophisticated fiber-optic tether technology, rendering it immune to electronic jamming and radar detection systems. This marks the first deployment of such advanced weaponry in the Western Galilee since the current ceasefire arrangement began, representing a significant tactical escalation by the Iranian-backed organization.

The fiber-optic control system employs a physical wire connection that prevents GPS or radio frequency interference, while stealth capabilities are designed to neutralize radar tracking and bypass Iron Dome detection protocols. This technological advancement has raised serious concerns among defense officials regarding the adequacy of current protective measures along the northern border.

"We Are the Sitting Ducks of This Country"

Yogev directed sharp criticism at government leadership, demanding immediate policy changes. "Defense Minister, where are you? Switch offices now and bring us a solution," he asserted. "If a drone had landed in New York, Lebanon wouldn't exist at all. Why are we the sitting ducks of this country?"

His frustration echoed sentiments expressed by Ma'ale Yosef Regional Council Head Shimon Guetta, who warned against normalizing Hezbollah drone strikes following the same incident. "A great miracle happened to us today," Guetta stated. "This event could have ended completely differently. I hear the screams of the parents and the cries of the children; we must not normalize this situation."

Yogev concluded his remarks with a direct appeal to Knesset members: "Overturn the tables. Don't give us protection only when we're burying children. You buried 1,500 in the south, wasn't that enough for you?"
